Our verdict

Scored as the Eesti Energia GROUP — the oil-shale electricity generation and shale-oil business (Enefit Power) consolidated with the renewables subsidiary (Enefit Green), not Enefit Green alone (which would score far higher in isolation). Eesti Energia operates Estonia's dominant fossil fuel infrastructure: 85% of national generation capacity, heavily dependent on oil shale. Emissions have declined from 11.3 Mt CO2 in 2018 to 3.8 Mt in 2020, driven by market forces rather than decarbonisation strategy. Critical gaps: unaudited sustainability data, no Scope 3 quantification, systemic environmental permit violations, and ongoing investment in new shale oil capacity despite IEA warnings.

Eesti Energia scores 31/100 (Below expectations) on SINK's independent climate assessment, scored from public data only. Scores are free. Nobody can pay to change a score, speed it up or hide it. Last verified July 2026.

That places Eesti Energia joint 698th of 1,023 companies scored, and 17th of 21 in Energy Supply / Utilities.
