We keep it simple. Like a food hygiene rating, we give every company a score out of 100. The higher the score, the better it is for the planet.

How to read a score
High scores are rare. Above 75 is rare. A score of 60 or more means clear leadership, backed by published data and science-based targets.

A carbon sink absorbs more carbon dioxide than it releases. Forests, oceans and soils all do it, helping keep greenhouse gases down.
No company acts like a carbon sink. Quite the opposite. So we score every company on how close they get, with a breakdown of how they did it, so others can follow.
The ten questions are answered from public evidence, such as annual reports, regulatory filings and investigations. You can check the working behind any score.
Anyone can send us new evidence, free. If it holds up, the score changes, up or down, and the change is logged on the company's page. Scores are free. Nobody can pay to change a score, speed it up or hide it. How we stay independent →

When we get one wrong, we say so. Our last published correction moved 47 scores, most of them down. Every one of them is on the company page, old score beside new.
Every company, big or small, is scored on the same ten questions.
We score total emissions, because that's what the climate responds to. The bigger the footprint, the more a company has to show. If a company doesn't publish a figure, we apply a cautious standard deduction instead.
We score what companies measure and do, and link every source so you can check it. Targets count for something. Offsets don't count as cuts.

Read our independence rules →Find your company below and open its page. Under “Is this your company?”, enter your work email at the company's website address. We send one link to confirm.
Once you confirm, the page says “Profile claimed by” your company, and we email you when its score changes. Claiming is free and changes nothing about the score.
