Netflix scores 1 point higher than Spotify Technology S.A. on SINK.
Netflix is more sustainable according to SINK's scores, scoring 42/100 vs Spotify Technology S.A.'s 41/100, a difference of 1 points.
Netflix scores 42/100 on SINK (Below expectations). Netflix's climate footprint is growing in absolute terms despite intensity-based targets, driven by rising Scope 3 emissions from production outsourcing. Reliance on carbon credits to claim net-zero status masks an absence of real emissions reduction. Nature-based carbon credits it bought have faced integrity challenges; water and waste data remain unreported.
Spotify Technology S.A. scores 41/100 on SINK (Below expectations). Spotify's footprint rose 3.9% to 202,666 tCO2e in 2025, almost all of it in its supply chain, mainly cloud computing, marketing and other bought-in services, estimated mostly from spending. Its figures have no third-party assurance, it publishes no renewable electricity share, and it says its 2030 net-zero goal is under evaluation, with no interim or SBTi target. It publishes no water data, and it switched off its Car Thing device about three years after launch.
Both companies are rated on the same 10-question SINK rubric: Scope 1/2/3 carbon footprint, energy source, nature and biodiversity, resource use, water, emissions trajectory, science-based targets, transparency, and controversies. Scores are 0–100, based on public data, and fully reproducible.
