Our verdict

Proton publishes no emissions data, renewable energy figures or climate targets, although it runs data centres in Switzerland, Germany and Norway. Users on its feedback board have asked for a climate statement and plan without a public answer, and it publishes no environmental governance. Its only environmental claim found is an undated listing it supplied to an EU stakeholder platform, which says it uses 100% renewable energy but gives no figures.

Proton scores 27/100 (Significant gaps) on SINK's independent climate assessment, scored from public data only. Scores are free. Nobody can pay to change a score, speed it up or hide it. Last verified November 2026.

That places Proton joint 815th of 1,023 companies scored, and joint 57th of 69 in SaaS / Digital Services.
